The Way Of Our Bento

Well Here they are. I am teaching my daughter’s to make O-bento lunchboxes this Summer and these are our very first ones. Though we do not have many supplies at this time, we improvised with the 2 little boxes we found at a local Asian market a few weeks ago, and The box I used was simply an Instant Asian noodle bowl with a lid. Our Pudding dessert and Tamari Sauce are in small containers found at the Dollar Tree Store down the road! Nothing fancy but very functional for us!
For our boxes we used the following ingredients;
Onigiri with Roasted Seaweed
Black Sesame Seeds
Baby Spring Mix Salad
Carrots Sticks and Slices
Snow Peas
Broccoli*
Fried Prawns*
Sliced Hmong roll*
Cherry Tomatoes
Chocolate Pudding
Tamari Sauce
* Items were leftover from Dinner Last night

I had my girls Pack their own boxes and they had such fun. They used small cookie cutter’s on slices of American cheese to add to their boxes. As you can see from their smiles they are quite proud of their work and are at this moment discussing what they think they will like to pack in their Lunches when School starts next session!

They enjoyed making these so much that they could not wait to start eating them. Over the Summer I hope to have them pack their Bento with many healthy alternatives to test out for their school lunch menu they will be helping me plan out. Once we are able to get to the Japanese Market so that they may pick out their 2 tier Bento boxes we will be including a healthy salad and fruits.
I think we did a great job on our first try! We would love to know how you create yours. Do you Have a formula as to how much Protein , Carbs, Veggies etc.. that you put into yours ?
